Insulation questions, answered
Short answers to what Wichita Falls area homeowners, landlords and shop owners ask us most.
Estimates and scheduling
Is there a charge to come look?
- No. The inspection and the written estimate cost nothing.
- You are under no obligation to book.
Can I text or email photos first?
- Yes. Photos of the attic, walls or shop plus rough square footage let us give you a ballpark quickly.
- A short visit confirms the details before the written price.
Which towns do you cover?
- Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, Iowa Park, Electra, Henrietta and Holliday.
- Also rural property around Wichita, Clay and Archer counties. See all locations.
Do you work with landlords and military families?
- Yes. Rentals can be done between tenants.
- If you have a PCS date or a closing date, tell us and we plan around it.
Attics
How much attic insulation does a home here need?
- Wichita, Clay and Archer counties are in climate zone 3.
- ENERGY STAR recommends R-49 for an uninsulated attic, or adding R-38 over 3 to 4 inches already there. More in our attic insulation guide.
How can I tell if my attic is short on insulation?
- The ceiling joists are visible above the insulation.
- Some rooms run hot in summer and cold in winter no matter where the thermostat sits.
Does insulation help in winter too, or just summer?
- Both. The same layer that blocks attic heat in August holds furnace heat in January.
- Read more in insulation for hot summers and cold winters.
Can new insulation go over what I already have?
- Yes, if the old layer is dry and clean.
- Soiled, wet or damaged material comes out first.
Wind, dust and storms
Why does dust keep showing up inside on windy days?
- Wind forces outside air through gaps around the attic hatch, fixtures, pipes and wiring.
- Air sealing those openings helps. See air sealing against wind and dust.
Should I check my insulation after hail or roof work?
- It is a good idea. Leaks and roofers walking the attic can soak or flatten insulation.
- We measure what is left and replace what is damaged.
Spray foam and metal buildings
When does spray foam make sense?
- Drafty homes, attics with ductwork, metal shops and new construction.
- For a straightforward attic top up, blown in usually gives more for the money. Compare in spray foam vs fiberglass.
Open cell or closed cell?
- Open cell is lighter and suits roof decks and interior walls.
- Closed cell is denser and blocks moisture, so it suits metal buildings and rim joists.
Do we have to leave during spray foam work?
- Yes, while spraying and until the manufacturer’s stated wait time is up.
- That is often about a day.
How do I stop my metal shop from sweating?
- Closed cell foam applied to the metal keeps moist air off the cold surface.
- More in our metal shop insulation guide.
Other questions
Is a radiant barrier worth it here?
- It works best on roofs in full sun, which describes a lot of homes in this area.
- It adds to attic insulation. It does not replace it.
Can you insulate walls without tearing them out?
- Often yes. Insulation is blown in through small holes that are patched afterward.
What if you find vermiculite in my attic?
- It looks like small gray brown pebbles and may contain asbestos.
- We stop and recommend testing before anyone touches it.
What will my project cost?
- It depends on the area, the material and any removal or prep.
- You get a written price after a free inspection. See what affects insulation cost.
